Capitec ATM *****
On the 30th of May 2018, My son (13 years old) went to the Capitec ATM in Bronkhorstspruit to withdraw money. A person came and told him to press cancel and enter him pin, upon doing this the ATM swallowed his card. He thought that his card was swallowed by the ATM because the card had expired on that day so he left to school. That afternoon my wife and he went to the Capitec bank to get a new card. On the 1st of June, when he went to Pick &Pay to buy a present for one of his friends he wanted to pay with his card and the transaction was declined. After the birthday party my wife took him to the ATM to do a balance enquiry and he realised his account was cleaned out. My wife and him went to Capitec to lodge a query and was informed that his account was cleaned out on the 30th of May. They lodged a complaint with the ***** dept and was informed today that it was dismissed because my son had to make sure he kept his card safe. Now, my son inserted his card into an ATM that is the property of Capitec, shouldn't Capitec be responsible for what happens to the card after he inserts it into their ATM? Now he lost 4 months worth of pocket money, that he was saving for an xbox, Gets charged R70 worth of bankfees because somehow someone mysteriously extracted my sons card out of the ATM? I have been a Capitec Bank account holder for 10 years, my wife is also an account holder and when the time came for us to open accounts for our kids, I thought it would be a good idea to also go to Capitec, now I am very disappointed in the way Capitec handled this situation and am seriously considering changing banks because of this. If this happens to me will I also just lose my salary? Banks are supposed to be a safe place to keep your money...
