Capitec ATM cash deposits too risky
I deposited cash at the Capitec ATM at Kensington Square on Tuesday. It was an amount of around R8000. I chose cardless service as I usually do, entered my account number and inserted the cash into the machine. The machine took my money and shut down. I immediately walked into the Capitec Branch in the centre and logged the incident. I was told that the matter would be resolved within 24 hours. Yesterday as it approached the 24 hour deadline, I received a message saying I czn expect to hear from them within 5 business days. I phoned the call centre and requested to speak to a manager, I was told that there are no updates on the system so no one knows what's happening. I was told that a manager would investigate and get back to me . This never happened. This is my money that Capitec is holding on to. I am now being made to wait for 5 working days yet I need this money to pay bills. This is unacceptable. What's even more shocking is that when this happened to me, security informed me that he saw the sane thing happen to 3 other people in the same week. And after this happened to me, it happened to others as well. My question is why was this problematic machine not switched off to prevent this happening to other people when the issue was first reported? Why was it allowed to happen to many others? This is a very stressful situation. It is a large amount of money that is needed urgently but now I am asked to wait for a period of 5 days for further investigation! Capitec is dragging their heels in resolving this matter and I dont know how many others are in my situation. Its just not safe to deposit money at their ATMs as faulty ATMs are clearly not attended to timeously!
