Capietc Bank is sliding into a quagmire

For some years I had no problems with logging into my account. Just give your account, a password and a code from a ****le. I thought that was a pretty foolproof system. Now, without warning, some smart asses with nothing better to do devised a nightmare system for so-called security in logging in. Suddenly you are faced with a list of steps to do. You have to use the Capitec App on your phone. This is my first objection. Any system that relies on the use of a phone is not secure. Phones in South Africa are routinely ******. Then you can’t get access your account, block anything or transfer funds to a safer destination. For many years I just used my laptop and the internet. After you’ve entered your “remote” password on your phone, you are faced with a QR pattern which you have to scan. Next you have to take a selfie of yourself. This is really a time waster. The system is invariably not satisfied with the angle of your camera - move it up or down, tilt it more or hold it more vertical. Eventually I get a message “successful”, but then I’m asked again to scan the QR code - presumably it expired because the selfie antics took too long. Now the cherry on top. Shortly after getting some data with the phone I realised I might need some air time as well, as I was going on a short trip. But then I was told that I used my remote pin “too many times” and my access was suspended. What bull****!! After getting the data I used the remote pin ONLY ONCE, so obviously the Capitec electronics can’t count. It seems the new “security” system of Capitec has sent their whole system into disarray. I have minimal patience with banks, so what I intend to do is transfer most of my funds to a more enlightened bank, and just keep the Capitec account ticking over in case the system gets “rationalised”. I really enjoyed my hassle-free years with Capitec. Prof W Richter ***.
