Cannot apply for a credit card because my employer does not contribute to UIF.

I app**** for a credit card and I was preapproved, pending employment confirmation. Once employment was confirmed, I was told that "By law", banks cannot provide any finance if a person is not contributing to UIF. I informed the consultant that it cannot be true as other, more reputable banks have already pre-approved me for larger credit facilities. She then had the nerve to say that maybe I should go to them and they may be able to provide me with a credit card, instead of trying to assist me. The service from these guys is pathetic, I had to call the branch 8 times to contact this consultant, and she never had the decency to return any of my calls. I am a trainee accountant and this is why I do not contribute to UIF, I am on a fixed term contract which is renewable at the end of my articles, once I am a qualified chartered accountant.
