************ banking practice from Capitec bank
I took out a purpose loan of R162 500 from Capitec to purchase a vehicle from We Buy Cars. The vehicle was faulty so the deal was cancelled and the money was returned into my We Buy Cars profile. I then used the funds, which I added a few Thousands, to purchase another vehicle from We Buy Cars. Again, the car was faulty and the deal was cancelled. The funds were credited back into my We Buy Cars profile.
On the 17th June 2025, I then purchased a vehicle for a slightly less amount of R88 500 from We Buy Cars. On the 18th June 2025, I then app**** for a refund for the outstanding amount in my We Buy Cars profile. I was then informed by We Buy Cars representatives that because the loan amount used to purchase my vehicle was a purpose loan, I would only receive R13 100 and the rest of the amount of R76 650 will be paid back to Capitec.
I called Capitec Bank on the 18th June 2025 to confirm that a refund must be done by We Buy Cars, which they agreed that it must be done. On the 25th June 2025, an agent from We Buy cars, Jeandre de Jager, confirmed that he had sent an email to Capitec since the 18th June 2025 and there has been no response. I called Capitec and I was informed that my issue will be resolved as soon as possible and that an email will be sent to We Buy Cars to process the refund.
I have been calling Capitec everyday to try to get the refund processed, but to date nothing has been done. I was told to write an email to a person called Nthati Khoanyane, but she did not respond to my email nor acknowledge receipt. This email was sent on the 03rd July 2025. I complained that interest is accruing on a loan amount of R162 000, but no person from Capitec cares to even assist me.
Last week I was refered to a manager at Capitec who informed me that the matter will take 7 to 14 days. I informed him that this is unfair because I have been requesting Capitec to facilitate the refund since 18th June 2025. This is totally unfair because I'm liable for interest on R162 000 whereas Capitec is refusing to facilitate a refund so that my loan can be recalculated. I'm being ****** due to ************ banking conduct from Capitec.
I'm at my wits end, because this matter is just not resolved. I feel that I'm being taken for a ride and this is frustrating me.
