BANK GIVING ME A RUNAROUND

On Friday the 17th of February I went to the Capitec Bank at the Mall of Africa. I told the gentleman at the entrance that i wanted to make a deposit. He advised e to use the ATM machine. I told him I had ever used their ATM to deposit, so he offered to go and show me. Transaction done, I proceeded to Standard Bank. Around 10h44 or so I went back to Capitec and told the gentleman i wanted to make another deposit. I had R16000 in R200 notes with me. He told me to go and use the ATM. I went to the ATM, inserted the notes, a few minutes there was a message on the screen saying "too many notes, transaction cannot be processed". The machine ejected the notes and I took all the notes that were ejected and went back to the guy at the entrance and tokd him that the machine had rejected my notes and told him the message it gave me. He just said, "that's strange " and gave me a ticket to go and deposit inside .

When my turn came I gave the teller the money i had taken from the machine. She put it on a note counter and told me it was R9600, I told her that no, the money should be R16000 and she counted it again using another note- counter, still the same resut. I told her I'd tried to use their ATM outside and those were the notes the machine had given back to me. We both rushed outside but naturally people had used the machine already, so she told me I was supposed to "cancel the transaction" prior to coming into the bank and the rest of my money would have been returned.

How was I supposed to know that the money that was ejected was not the total amount I had put in. She went and called their branch Manager who came and asked me what had happened, needless to say that I spent almost two hours there whilst they were waiting for someone to do a recon on the machine, I asked to leave and she (the bank manageress) gave me a reference and promised to call me on Monday the 20th after she had spoken to the Centre Management and asked them for footage .

Yesterday (Monday the 20th) I got a call from a lady from their head office who told me that the Centre Management was refusing to release the footage to them unless I go and open a case at the police station. I asked her a lot of questions about this because what I dont understand is why the Centre Management would refuse to give them footage when they are tenants of the Centre.

Needless to say I went to the Police Station and after telling my story to a few cops I was sent to a Detective who told me that they could not open a case because according to them, there was "no crime committed". He also pointed out that he didnt understand why the Centre Managemet would refuse to give Capitec the footage. I also dont understand because I thought banks also had their own cameras at the ATMs.

I am exhausted by this whole process. All I need is my money back because I was instructed by their employee to use the machine without even asking me how much I wanted to deposit and it is their machine that rejected the notes.
