Bad Credit Card Service From Capitec.

I am a Capitec Bank Client. I love Capitec and i think its a great bank. The staff are friendly and one never has to wait in queues. So this is not a complaint about the bank itself. I am a Muizenberg client. However, they now offer Credit Cards. Being a bank that has a mainly salaried client base,, they don't appear to have many self employed people like me. ( I have 3 businesses). I recently app**** for a credit card, which has turned into a nightmare and after a week I have go nowhere. Their credit assessor or manager refuse to communicate with the public. I ask you !!!! A bank that does not want to talk to its clients ? I need to explain the deposits to my account, which are quite simple, but due to their lack of knowledge regarding clients like myself, they cannot asses my income. There are deposits of close to R2 mill over the last 2 years. Despite the pandemic I earn quite a substantial amount of money all of which goes into their bank and work 7 days a week.. I have given them mounds of paper, statements, and tried for 2 hours and 20 minutes on the phone to explain my predicament to them. I GOT NOWHERE. IF A BANK OFFERS A PRODUCT THEY MUST KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT THE PRODUCT AND THE MARKET THEY ARE OFERRING IT TO. Capitec Bank does not know how to handle clients who do not earn a ordinary salary. I am so very disappointed. I am waiting for their area manager to contact me. Which he probably will not. I do not like credit cards, but have to make a trip overseas in this pandemic to rescue a very sick family member and need a card. PLEASE CAPITEC BANK !!!!!!! Sidney Farrell-Thorne

Capitec Bank declined my credit card application today on the flimsiest of excuses. Maybe a blessing in disguise. I have 3 sources of income. A hairdressing salon, a sucessfull importing business, and I also sell property. Not one of these supersedes the other. So I cannot say that I am exclusively the owner of a hairdressing salon with employees, or an importer of medical prosthesis, or an an estate agent. My hairdressing business earned me in excess of R72000 over the last six months. My rental business earned in excess of R22000, and the few houses I sold in excess of R70000. That's an income of R164000 for 6 months, all of which is reflected in my bank account at Capitec. An average of R27000 per month. I have a good credit record with no debt, and my taxes are up to date. I have also deposited way more than R1 mill into my account with them in the last 3 years. Every cent I earn is proven and recorded in my account. If you are a good bank manager, you can read your clients like a book by looking at a bank statement. Nobody at Capitec is capable.

1) Firstly they did not understand how the rental income works, despite my explanations. So I just told them to skip it. I don't suffer fools.

2) They do not understand what bridging finance is, so I had to get a letter from the estate agency I work for to explain it to them.

3) Then they were not happy with the name of the agency, despite it being very clear on all of my emails. with the company registration no. They don't know that a company can trade under any name it wants to. They don't understand that a PTY LTD can trade under another name either. I have 4 email addresses for my businesses. So I had to reconstruct 4 income advices for them.

4) They only want their clients to submit documents to them by PDF or your application is declined. God help you if you don't have a computer, or are not computer literate. What do people who do not have computers do ???? Idiotic, and beyond stupid. First I ask them to give me back all my documentation so I can resend it to them by PDF. Then after much running around I am told they cant find it all. Disorganization.

5) They do not understand how a credit card machine works, despite all the money reflecting in my account. So I had to send them a detailed statement for the last 7 months, with the dates, times, amounts, charges etc. on it. I still dont think they know or understand it.

6) Then they alleged that I do not pay tax. Someone with three businesses not paying tax. I ask you. So I had to send them my tax assessment, and tax directive as proof that I am not a non tax paying person.

Despite all of the above, and meeting their criteria for a credit card, I was refused because I did not deposit any commission into my account in January. But plenty of money from my other businesses went in. Now I am asking myself. Do these people understand that a person can have 3 businesses ? Do they understand self employed people at all ? Do they understand their clients ? The answer is NO.
As an ex Bank manager, with a B.comm Degree from UCT Business school, and a Diploma In Banking, and thirty years banking experience both locally and internationally, I WANT TO TELL EVERYONE IN SOUTH AFRICA TO AVOID THIS BANK LIKE THE PLAGUE. ITS BAD NEWS. THEY HAVE INEXPERIENCED BADLY TRAINED staff from the consultants in their branches to their Area Manager level. Its appalling.
In short. this was the most stressful waste of time, with a bunch of idiots trying to engage with business people, who they don't understand and cannot relate to. I have never experienced anything like this. Its like a comedy show. A tragic one. The designated official they mentioned above should be a lorry driver maybe or selling vegetables. He was incoherent, indecisive, and plain stupid and understands nothing. Besides having no sense of diplomacy or interpersonal skills.
I now have to change all my account numbers and debit orders, to get away from this bank.

WARNING TO ALL SELF EMPLOYED PEOPLE IN SOUTH AFRICA : STAY AWAY FROM CAPITEC BANK. THEY ARE BAD NEWS. THEY DONT KNOW HOW TO INTERACT WITH BUSINESS PEOPLE. If you earn a salary and get a payslip from 1 job, and its paid into this bank, stay with them. They can deal with you. If you are like me stay away. AND NEVER, BUT NEVER apply for a credit card. Please.

And just one other thing about this bank. Their overall rating on this blog is a dismal 1 star. Out of 5. I am not surprised. I also want everyone to know that someone was withdrawing money **********ly out of my account until I had to put a stop to it. They never noticed, and did not offer to help me get the money back. They said there was nothing they could do. But if I paid them R400 they would try !!! HAHAHA. How professional.
