ATM *****s my money.

Problem still not resolved : First response

On Thursday 7 January I tried to draw R1850.00 from my SASSA account at a Captec ATM at Bluehills shopping centre. The ATM was busy for a long time and then displayed on the screen that the transaction was cancelled. I was then informed that the ATM was just fixed, the technician had just left. Later I tried to draw the money at another ATM at another shopping centre. It told me that there not enough funds in the account. On Friday I went to the Post Office in the Bolders in Midrand, and drew a statement. According to the statement, R1850 was drawn from my account on Thursday. I went to Capitec, Bluehills, to ask for their assistance. I showed a cashier the statement that I got from the Post Office. Her response was that they ( Capitec) could not do anything about it because the account was handled by the Post office. She assisted me to talk to someone at SASSA. The person at SASSA told me that they could also not anything about it, because they pay the global amount over to the Post Office so she suggested that I go to the Post Office to sort aout the problem. I then went to the Post office in Mall at Reds, because it would be less busy than the one in the Boulders. They could not assist me for their Post Master was not in. They suggested that I go to Wierda Park Post Office, which I then did. At Wierda park a teller was extremely helpful and took my details as well as a certified copy of my SASSA card and id document. They would then send this to the Post Office head office and let me know telephonically as to the results. Today (16 January) still no results. My thinkingt is that Capitec should actually be the company who should sort this out for the problem started with a Capitec ATM that was faulty.

Second response

Now on Thursday 21 January 2021 the situation is as follows. Capitec Bank has indeed responded very quickly, but their head office says that because the withdrawal is from the postal services, they cannot do anything about it. It has to be dealt with by the Postbank. The Capitec person who tried to assist me, attempted to contact Postbank, but after holding on to the phone for about 30 minuts, twice, he could not get a Postbank official on the line at all. The state of incompetence within government controlled organisations is very well known by all South Africans by now. However, the problem still arised from a fault within an ATM that belongs to Capitec. The funds are shown to be withdrawn from Postbank so obviously it is now sitting in limbo in cyberspace. It is not in Postbank any more, and did not get paid out by the ATM, so the guilty party is the ATM which is property of Capitec. Thus I would say it is still completely Captec’s responsibility to sort this out, and quickly please. I am quite willing to post a writing like this to all the major news agencies in the country, (radio, newspaper, financial publications etc.) I am sure somobody will be eager to print it e.g.the Sowetan. Please help me sort this out without me having to resort to such measures.
