Arrears amount of one cent causing bad credit record.
I have always loved Capitec and I never ever wanted to go to another bank. Recently, however, I finished off a loan of which I never paid a single day late or too little. Perfect record. The money went off by deduction. Last month they deducted the last installment but it was less than the usual amount because I've always paid a little extra. I'm happy. Loan done.
Imagine my surprise when I wanted to apply for a home loan and I got told I don't qualify because my loan is in arrears. Naturally this shows up on my credit record. ONE CENT. My account is in arrears with ONE. CENT. THEY deducted the amount. I didn't EFT it. It wasn't a fixed amount. They were going to deduct the final amount. I called them trying to get it sorted so that I can get my name cleared. I have an above average credit record and obviously I want to keep it that way.
They are unable to help me. They will submit a request to have the ONE CENT written off and then they'll send me a paid up letter but unfortunately it will still show on my credit record that I didn't pay on time.
***. So what did they want? Did they want me to rock up in the bank with a 10c piece (do they even still have those?) and then tell them, "Keep the change?"
I love capitec but I'm honest if I say that I doubt I'll ever take a loan from them again and I will make damn sure every one I know will know about this.
