Allowed a susepended debit order to go through a month later

The only way you can stop a debit order with Capitec is by closing your account. So I went into the bank with an affidavit asking a Debit be stop from any debits as the agreement between the debitor was not finalized and goods never received. So in the branch they suspended the debit, checking online it states suspended. All good and well till a month later the debit went through. So does this mean I wasted my time going into the bank. So if it is suspended and still allowed to go through, how do you stop it. Change banks I guess.
