Accidental payment

Hi there.

On Capitec. I have mistakenly transfered money to someone yesterday, in realizing this I immediately called Capitec and was told they can't help with anything.

This morning I went through to the branch with a hope to get my money back, but to my surprised, the Bank told me this is a civil matter and there's absolutely nothing they can do about it ... I asked that they block the account since the person has apparently withdrew the money and Capitec told me they have to protect their clients but I am a client as well but nothing is done to help me.

I was taken from pillars to post by the bank and referred to Small Claims or the police station as they apparently need a court to block the account.

Herewith my Incident Number #***2

"In fulfilment of our duty of care toward you, we attempted to recall the funds transferred to the unintended recipient but were unsuccessful in doing so as the unintended recipient was unreachable.
It is imperative that we draw your attention to our Mobile Banking Agreement as it stipulates that no transaction on Mobile Banking is reversible. We tried our level best to assist upon your request. Furthermore, we will not be responsible for any loss or damage caused by your error, either in capturing an intended recipient details or in making payments or in any other action performed by you. We will therefore not be liable for payments made by you to unintended recipients if you give the wrong information to us. This is a civil matter and your claim is against the holder of the account for unjustified enrichment. You may institute legal proceedings through the Small Claims Court. Finally, we would like to inform you that the Bank can only divulge particulars relating to the beneficiary upon receipt of a subpoena in terms of section 205 of the ******** Procedure Act."

Your reply on Twitter @capitec bank. You being unable to reach the recipient should raise alarms, why not escalate this and block the account? I mean I am also a customer after all.
