Abusive treatment received from staff at Capitec Bank the Glen shopping centre Johannesburg
I had the misfortune of going into Capitec Bank at the Glen shopping centre in Johannesburg this morning. My intention was to open a savings account in which to deposite my SASSA grant every month. The guy at the door came up to me after finishing with a customer and asked me what I needed. I told him what I wanted to do and he asked for my ID book which I gave to him and he disappeared for a few minutes only to come back to me telling me that the ID book I had given him was not acceptable because the green page which was usually glued to the inside of the cover was missing. I told him that I use this ID regularly without incident and that this is the first time I was having a problem. I left Capitec very upset after being treated like a ********. Even though I had my driver's licence as well as a 3 month bank statement for my ABSA savings account into which my pension is paid and as well as being in possession of an ABSA credit card I was not allowed to open the required savings account at Capitec. I was left feeling insulted and enraged at the manner I was treated and awaiting for Capitec to respond to a complaint that I have laid with their client services department. I am a 70 year old pensioner of ill health
