14 days to clear a cheque?!

I realise that in this day and age receiving a cheque for payment is rare. My landlord wrote me a cheque for the return of my deposit. She is an elderly woman and is not computer literate. I deposited the cheque on the 7th March expecting around 5 days for it to show in my account. Today is the 6th working day and i've just been informed that it takes 14 days to reflect in my account. Come on, this is 2016!!!! what takes so long? Are you using ***eon carriers or runners with a cleft stick? all it takes is a phone call or an email to the issuing bank to confirm if the funds are available. This is so Lethargic. Wake up Capitec Bank!!!!
