BEWARE: Could not change accidental incorrect booking!

Beware: we made the unfortunate mistake of booking a room at Cape Town Lodge, late in the evening (22h40 on 17 Aug. 2023). After receiving confirmation of the aforementioned booking we realized that the date was incorrect (booking for 17th of Aug.), it was processed for the date the booking was made on. We immediately contacted Agoda Support to change the date. They contacted the hotel and received the reply: "We are sorry to inform you that the property did not approve your amendment request." We then contacted the property directly (at 22h46 on 17 Aug), ONLY SIX minutes after the booking was made, jusy to be told the none of the staff were autorised to cancel or change bookings. We again contacted the property on the morning of the 18th of August; a very unfriendly "reservations agent" told us nothing can be done about our booking and the night we paid for, was filed as a "no show". Their policy fine print states that "bookings cannot be ammended in a case like ours". We were also told that we cannot speak to the hotel manager and that he enforce this policy.
