This place is pure slavery

My experience working here was one of the most exhausting and disappointing experiences of my life.

The job is advertised as a facilitator position, but much of the work I experienced had little to do with facilitation. Instead, I spent hours carrying and moving bunk beds, cleaning areas, picking up litter during what was called a "chicken parade", and doing physically demanding tasks that were never properly explained during recruitment.

The working hours felt relentless. Many days seemed to start around 05:00 and only ended close to 23:00. Rest was limited, expectations were constant, and there was always pressure to keep moving. I often felt more like a labourer than a facilitator.

During training, everything appeared welcoming and professional. Once employed, the environment felt completely different. The culture was built around obedience rather than respect. Raising concerns, questioning decisions, or expressing opinions often felt discouraged. The message many employees received was simple: accept it or leave.

The accommodation was another major disappointment. Staff were expected to stay in overcrowded conditions, sometimes sharing tented accommodation with large numbers of people. Privacy was almost non-existent.

The food arrangements were equally frustrating. Meals felt rushed, with very little time allocated for eating before staff were expected to return to work. Instead of feeling valued, many employees felt like they were simply being processed through a system.

What stood out most was the way some staff members appeared to be treated differently from others. From my perspective, certain individuals seemed to receive more opportunities, recognition, and promotions, while others felt overlooked. This created resentment and damaged morale throughout the workplace.

Management was one of the biggest problems. Many supervisors communicated through shouting rather than leadership. Staff were often spoken to as though they were children. Fear seemed to be used as a management tool, with threats of dismissal hanging over employees whenever concerns were raised.

The environment became so exhausting that employees would sometimes hide in bathrooms or find secluded places simply to get a few moments of rest. That alone should tell you how serious the burnout was.

Health and wellbeing did not appear to be priorities. During one asthma attack late at night, I felt unsupported and dismissed when I needed assistance. Experiences like that left many employees feeling that their wellbeing came second to operations.

The salary did not match the workload or sacrifices required. Deductions would occur, leaving employees confused and frustrated. Meanwhile, promoted positions often appeared to carry significantly more responsibility without meaningful financial improvement.

The organisation presents itself as caring, disciplined, and values-driven. My experience was the opposite. I encountered an environment that felt controlling, exhausting, and emotionally draining. Staff were expected to maintain smiles and positivity in front of clients while dealing with frustration, fatigue, and low morale behind the scenes.

In my opinion, leadership bears responsibility for the high turnover of employees. Many people leave because they feel unheard, undervalued, and overworked. The problems are not isolated incidents. They are part of a culture that, from my experience, needs serious change.

I would not recommend this workplace to anyone seeking respect, work-life balance, professional growth, or a healthy working environment.
