Camp Discovery Review

Review of Camp Discovery

I regret to say that our experience with Camp Discovery was extremely disappointing, and I feel compelled to share our concerns to help others make an informed decision.

1. **Unprofessional and Racially Biased Treatment:** From the onset, the head of Marketing, Mark, was not only rude but also acted in a manner that seemed to racially profile our group. During our campsite viewing, we were shown rooms that seemed appropriate for our youth and teachers, but on the day of our stay, we were given different cabins and rooms that did not meet the expectations set during the viewing. A staff member later told us that our original rooms had been given to another group that was predominantly white. This was not only an inconvenience but also felt discriminatory.

2. **Unreasonable Rules and Tampered Services:** Once we arrived at the campsite, Mark made our stay more difficult by imposing ridiculous and unreasonable rules, including strict instructions on how to run and set up our services. To make matters worse, we experienced technical issues with the campsite’s electrical system. The power would cut off every 15 minutes at inconvenient times, which disrupted our schedule, especially when we had planned an all-night service. It was clear that this was no coincidence, and it felt like an intentional attempt to interfere with our event.

3. **A Drastic Decline in Service Quality:** Our church has visited Camp Discovery in the past, specifically in 2018 and 2019, and we never experienced such poor service. The difference this year was night and day, and it was incredibly frustrating to deal with these issues after having positive experiences in the past.

In conclusion, I strongly feel that Mark should be held accountable for his unprofessional behavior and lack of respect towards large groups. He needs to be properly trained in customer service and cultural sensitivity. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this campsite to Black people or any other groups looking for an inclusive and welcoming environment.
