Dirty Diesel from Caltex Summit Station Rivonia Road Sandton
On Monday 22nd of Jan 2018 I filled up my Nissan Navara with just over R1000.00 of 50ppm Diesel. I only use summit service station as it is on route home from work and is convenient as well as the fact that I get U-count points for it being a Caltex garage. I have at least 7 months proof of using this station by means of bank statements.
On the morning of the 24th while driving to work I noticed the red engine light came on, this has never happened to me before and I was not aware of what the problem could be so I decided to take my car to Nissan to check the error code.
After the technician assessed my car he confirmed there was an error code which pointed to the fuel filter. He came and showed me what came out of the filter and I was shocked. He showed me a cup of diesel with black particles floating around. The technician informed me that they would have to drain all the diesel from the tank, flush the fuel lines, remove the tank clean it and replace it and the diesel filter to prevent possible further damage.
If not done I could run the risk of blocking the injectors which cost R9000 each and could have cost me way over R54 000.00 to repair. I was quoted R5273.40 to resolve this issue and took the technicians advice to proceeded with the repairs/clean-up.
The technician asked where I fill up my car and I told him summit service station. As already stated I have proof for a minimum of 7 months showing regular summit service station visits. After I got to work on the 24th I called and spoke to the manager Claire at Summit Station and she informed me I need to take it up with Caltex as they do not do the testing nor own the fuel tanks. I have all the diesel which was removed from my car. I would like to know how this will be resolved from your side as I believe dirty diesel is the root cause of this unforeseen cost to me.
I look forward to your response.
