Salesman wasted my time & was sneaky about his apology – thus costing CTM a customer for life

I was disappointed at the poor service that I received at CTM Menlyn on Sunday 10/03/2019. I know the store was busy, so initially I didn’t mind waiting for service. I requested 10m2 of a certain tile with sufficient cement and bonding liquid from the salesman, George Pondja. When they only loaded 3 boxes of tiles in my vehicle I questioned why there were not 5 boxes as its 2m2/box. Only to find out the salesman, George Pondja had only invoiced me for 6m2 of tiles, yet he supp**** enough cement for 11m2. After another long wait and after bringing it to his and the store manager, Garvan Gardiner’s attention he merely said sorry and invoiced me for the 2 additional boxes.

An hour later George Pondja phoned to apologise. He acknowledged he wasted my time and said when I’m next in store he will give me discount on my next purchace. This sent my blood pressure through the roof, because why did he or the store manager give me that discount on the additional 2 boxes whilst I was in store?! I purchase from CTM once in a blue moon and don’t foresee a need to return in the near future and besides this incident has left a sour taste that I probably will eternally boycott this store and CTM in general.

10% of the 2 boxes would have been R30. Its not about the R30, yet the principle. To say sorry for wasting a customers time should come with a cost, something that the salesman knew – yet it is sneaky of him to link it to a next purchase! For A mere R30 CTM have lost a customer for life.

A month and a few follow up emails later and CTM reimbursed me for the two boxes of tiles they never included in the original invoice. Thank you CTM
