Ecohardwearing tile bad quality
We bought an Ecotec Dover grey hardwearing tile there for our house beginning this year. It is supposed to be hard wearing. 32 tiles were replaced before we moved in due to corners chipped etc.The tiles came out of the box with corners chipped. Now I see we have 3 cracked tiles again Cracked right through.How can a tile be advertised as hardwearing, but it is not.It is thinner than the normal tile and cracks so easily.When my dogs walks on the tiles, it sounds like glass. Now we have to replace all our tiles which are about 125m2 at our cost, cause these tiles will not last long Tiles were bought on developer profile as well as we bought some to replace

14 Dec 2023, 10:15As I thought.CTM would come back stating that they are not taking responsibility.The developer were sold B grade tiles as they did not have A grade stock.When I collected a box myself, I was told by CTM staff that quality and strength is the same, there might just be some colour differences here and there.That was not true at all.We ended up having inferior tiles,tiles with chips inside the boxes.

Site visit feedback:• Impact damage caused after installation would reveal the tile body in the area that it occurs – the chip would be clean of adhesive and grout as randomly found along the tile edge.• Whilst the chips would be present at time of installation when grouted into the floor.• Chipped sides and corners of the tiles are caused by impact damage. This could occur either during handling of the tile boxes – loading and offloading or during time of installation – here specific reference is made to installed tiles where the damaged areas have been grouted into the tile bed.• Unvenely bedded tiles where tile sides and corners stand proud of each other would be prone to chipping with side impact.• Tiles that have cracked on the floor are hollow sounding in placesindicating a lack of adhesive support within the tile bed layer in thatarea. Please bear in mind that tiles are an extension of the substrate and require being fully bedded to avoid this from occurring. Where the tile has cracked across its surface near the front door there is a disintegration of the grout around it. A state of compression is present, transferring to the tile bed, causing it to react. The tile remains intact with the substrate at this point in time.
Recommendations:
• To avoid impact damage, rectified tiles should be handled with care – the edges are not designed to handle impact, but to provide an even straight grout line when bedded evenly side by side.• The glazed tile surfaces observed were in sound condition with the inspection.• Tiles should be checked before installing as a rule of thumb to ensure all is good for the best result.• The issues raised on site do not represent a manufacturing or product fault.• To resolve the issues raised would entail removing and replacing the affected tiles – the cost of which would however not be the responsibility of the manufacturer.Please feel free to let me know if you require any further information. 22 Dec 2023, 09:02We took three of the cracked tiles out.There were sufficient tile cement underneath the tiles as well as no cracks on our foundation.I feel the ceramic manager came to our house with the intention to prove their product has no defects.He took pics of TopT tiles(which my husband chipped one with his coffee cup)which is not their product.Probably to aim that we are rough.I specifically asked a CTM employee when collecting the B grade box if the quality is the same as A grade and they stated same quality and strength with slight colour differences here and there.Sad to say it was not entirely true.
