Settlement Letter?????

on the 31st I got an sms saying that there will be legal action on my account due to non payment, all my payments are up to date and debit orders only go off on the 1st, I called in demanding an explanation, I did not get one as they dont know why I would get an email like that but asked if I was in a position to settle my account because a 40% discount was only valid for that day, I had to jump through alot of hoops but I managed to settle, I was told the debit order will not be going through as I have settled the account and I would receive a paid up letter. As I thought lies lies and more lies, the debit order went off on the 1st even though I settled the account, 7 days later no paid up letter and I am struggling to get back the money from the debit order. I basically paid a large sum of money and I have no dept free or paid up letter to show for it I question the legitamacy why is it so difficult to just send the letter and close my account????????
