Do Brooks & Luyt want you NOT to pay on time?

Without warning, Standard Bank handed me over to Brooks & Luyt, who sent me a text message (assuming I'd get it) telling me to phone them. I did, asked them to call back. Brooks & Luyt called back TEN DAYS LATER. Their agent said I owed Standard Bank R160.00. Asked her to send me a mail so I could pay it. No mail. Today, "Section 129 letter of demand has been sent, summons to follow". Nice going, Mr Brooks - from exceptionally professional to this???

We refer to the complaint received on 10 October 2018 and hereby confirm that we act on behalf of Standard Bank.

We further confirm that the matter has been escalated to the manager overseeing the respective portfolio for investigation.

We will be in contact with the complainant in an attempt to resolve the issue and trust that this matter will be resolved amicably.

I refer to text message sent in September, to which I called in response. Asked you call centre to please call back as I had no air time. They called back TEN DAYS later. The woman said I owe Standard Bank R160.00, which I repeated several times. Asked her to send me an email with details to pay this amount. Received NOTHING. Today, "Section 129 letter of demand" text message comes through. How terribly unprofessional, to ensure we are not given the time to make payments because your call centre does not follow up, nor is anyone from Brooks & Luyt available to discuss. Shame on you. An "amicable" resolution is where both parties act in fairness. Swinging the legal axe without any follow up is shameful for Brooks & Luyt and Standard Bank. I look forward to a legally-trained human being contacting me - threatening text messages from call centres do not for "amicable" resolutions make.
