Debit Order in place now receive Summons!

I received a phone call from Brookes & Luyt early last year (2018) to say I owed money on a personal Loan from 2013 /14. As we found ourselves in dire financial difficulty we could not keep up with the instalments. We received no communication till 2016 when a discount was offered and as we were in no fit state financially to comply. From beginning of 2018 we were hounded by incessant phone calls which to my detriment I finally decided in Nov 2018 into doing a debit order to show good faith but asked for the original statements of what I owed. No statements of my payments or any further information forthcoming after many e-mails . I have been paying via debit order monthly since end November 2018 and did mention that I would be able relook in July 2019 as our finances would have improved that I would be able to pay a lump sum. Yesterday I received a Summons with a huge amount that there is no way I would be able to pay. My contact details have remained the same throughout so why not contact me telephonically or via email like what was done originally? have tried to contact you today regarding this Summons but I have not been able to. I just want to sort this out so any information will be greatly appreciated.
