Household content insurance
Claim Number: ***
I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the handling of my claim under my household contents insurance policy with Brolink and Hollard Insurance. My policy provides cover for R300,000, and I recently suffered a break-in resulting in losses amounting to R100,000.
To my dismay, I have been informed that due to the application of an underinsurance ratio based on my inventory list, I will only receive R34,000. This outcome is deeply concerning, especially considering that my total cover exceeds the value of my loss. I find it unfair that, despite insuring my household contents for R300,000, I am being penalized for underinsurance and receiving significantly less than the value of my claim.
The decision to apply such ratios is troubling, as we take up insurance policies based on what we can afford, trusting that they will provide sufficient support in times of need. In this case, I am not asking for more than my actual loss of R100,000; I simply seek fair compensation for the insured value of the items lost.
I have also raised this matter with Lufuno Mbedzi from Brolink and requested that it be escalated, but I have been told that this is the insurer's decision. I believe that there should be a more human-centered approach to such situations, particularly for a first-time claim involving a traumatic event like a home break-in. Instead of feeling supported, I feel as though I am being further disadvantaged by my insurer.
I kindly request a review of my claim and a reconsideration of the decision to apply the underinsurance ratio in this manner. I trust that Brolink and Hollard Insurance will address this matter fairly and in good faith.
I look forward to your prompt response.
