Time Tardiness and No Customer Empathy

I was scheduled to fly on BA6417 on 15 Oct at 12:50 from Joburg to CT. After rushing from my last meeting to the airport and checking in I was greeted at the gate with \Indefinite Delay"sign. Around 1pm the BA people behind the gate desk couldnt even give me an approximate time. Then after about 40min of waiting we were told to move to a different gate. After waiting for another it seemed eternity we were allowed to board around 1:45pm.

We then waited in an extremely hot cabin without any airconditioning for an hour. Besides poor time keeping and not managing expectations"

Hello vasigan14,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. I am truly sorry for the frustration caused due to the delay experienced .

We try hard to keep to our published schedule as we understand the impact it has on our customers. Any delays to our schedule due to factors within our control are only imposed when absolutely necessary as it has a business impact on us as well. Some occasions, we have no alternatives and in such cases, we do have to impose the delay.

On time performance is a prime area of focus for us and we always review any disruption we have imposed and what alternatives we can use for future. Unfortunately with the delay experienced on the 15th Oct , no alternatives were available at the time .

According to the engineers, the engines would not run while the aircraft is in the parking bay . Engines only get started after the aircraft has been pushed back on the centre line ready to taxi for take-off. The APU , fitted in the tail end provides electrical power and pneumatics for the aircon system .

I sincerely apologise for your discomfort on this occasion.

Best regards
