My hubby and I flew in to jhb from Saudi Arabia and had to catch the British Airways flight from jhb to durban. Coming in from out of the country automatically allows us to check in the international baggage requirements - 2 x 23kg bags each and 1 x 7kg hand luggage. We had brought holy water with us as well. When we get to the check in counter we only had 2 big bags weighing under 20kgs each and 2 hand luggage bags weighing around 8kgs. While checking our bags in we told the lady that we had holy water as well. She checks all 4 of our bags to go in and then tells us that the holy water is not allowed onto the plane and we must now pay R425 excess baggage. We then spoke to another check in counter assistant and she says that theres nothing she can do to help and we even asked if it was possible for us to re call our checked in bags and she says NO. So we pay for the excess baggage. I then decided to speak to the supervisor and the supervisor tells us that we CAN call back our bags as we had a few hours left for our flight. We then re called our bags. Fitted in the holy water into our big bags and this did not exceed the allowed weight allowance at all. When we go to try and get a refund for the R425 we paid we are flatly refused. Nobody was interested in our story even though the supervisor said we can ask for a refund. I still have the baggage tag and proof that we did not check in a 5th piece of luggage.

I then emailed British airways and the lady that responds to my email is very sorry for the poor behaviour of her staff but she cannot refund my money and says that i can get legal council if i wish to pursue the issue.

We were pressured into paying for excess by uneducated staff members and it is now our fault

And she says further compliments and feedback is always welcome!

Why would i ever want to use ur airline again? When you support staff members who have decieved us and ****med us into paying for something we did not need!
