Poor Customer Service
It all began on Sunday (Flight BA 6429, departing 17:00, but departed at approximately 18:00 after having changed boarding gates with no prior notice during check-in). I was travelling to Cape Town and our flight departed 1 hour late! Since this was my first British Airways (Comair) experience, you can imagine my disappointment. Upon my return flight back to OR Tambo last night (Flight BA 6426, which departed Cape Town on time this time around at 18:00, but once again changed boarding gates without prior notice at check-in), I experienced the true meaning of POOR customer service: 1. So Comair gave us 2 options for dinner; chicken or vegetarian. Since I don’t eat chicken, I opted for vegetarian. To my dismay, the vegetarian meal contained corn, of which I am allergic. I then called the flight attend who served me the meal and explained the situation to her and requested some fruit at the very least as I was quite hungry (whilst I returned the vegetarian meal to her). All she could say was: “sorry, we don’t have fruit”. 2. I decided to then speak to another flight attendant who was serving drinks with her other colleague (drinks were served shortly after meals) and once again explained the situation. The response (and behaviour) I got was more baffling than the first response I received from the previous flight attendant I spoke to. This particular flight attendant kept the beverage trolley (server) moving whilst I was talking to her, laughed and then looked at her colleague (who was on the other side of the tray), and asked her “do we have any mash….” and then mumbled something else which inaudible. I then witnessed her colleague shrug her shoulders as they both kept moving. The flight attendant then looked at me (as I kept looking back at them walking off) and said (whist continuing to walk away with the trolley (server): “we have mash”, and continued laughing. I’m still not quite sure what was so funny at the time. I then rep****: “Never mind”, and did my best to remain calm so as to avoid any escalation of any sort. Conclusion: No offer from 3 flight attendants to assist me in any way. Would it be safe to assume that British Airways (Comair): • Doesn’t really have any time for their customer complaints? • Doesn’t believe in treating their customers fairly? • Doesn’t offer a fair amount of choice for customers when it comes to on-board cuisine? I will be sure to share my experiences with the entire organisation where I work as this was a business trip.
