passing off non-kosher meals as kosher

Last month, I flew with my wife and three kids to Johannesburg for a family wedding. We had ordered kosher meals in advance. When the meals arrived, though covered in “BA kosher” stickers, we noticed the breakfast itself, including yoghurt and a cupcake, was clearly NOT kosher. The kids were hungry – and irritable – and the airhostess, very apologetic, kindly supp**** us with a few packets of nuts. I didn’t take the matter any further believing it was just a once-off mistake. You can imagine my surprise when last week, I again flew BA to Jhb, and again was served a non-kosher breakfast with a BA kosher sticker on the wrapping. Leave aside the fact that biltong and a Kitkat is not exactly the breakfast of champions. The biltong itself wasn’t kosher!

Going without breakfast on both those flights wasn’t a very pleasant experience obviously. I’m also concerned that other passengers, especially foreigners unfami**** with local certifications and kosher products, will unwittingly eat these non-kosher meals, trusting BA’s own certification sticker, which, evidently, they just stick on regardless of the contents.
