Keep away from British Airways in Namibia

I took a trip to Namibia this summer. Believing in the British Airways brandname, I picked return tickets through Johannesburg with the JHB-Windhoek part with BA (operated by a local carrier called Comair), expecting same standards as for European flights. How wrong of me!
Return flight in WDH: the aircraft went all the way down the runway, stayed put for a while, only message from the pilot being the transponder was down. We disembarked 2h later. Handling of the situation by ground staff was everything but amateurish: poor communication, no voucher and most of us had connecting flights afterwards.
The flight took off 4h late, so that I missed my connecting flight in JHB. BA office in JHB arranged for rebooking on a flight to London the next day and paid for it. I still landed in London more than 24h late. I raised a claim with BA to get a compensation for that delay: I was offered by Comair a 50gbp voucher on any of their flights! This ridiculous given that under EU law, mandatory comp. is 420gbp in cash. They argued this was not operated by BA hence not under EU law. Bad faith from BA: using their brandname for marketing, but not mentioning that different standards apply.
