Incorrect advising regarding pet travels.
We flew from JNB to PE, on flight BA6238, and wanted to take our pet (small dog) with us. We phoned the airline a week prior to the flight, in order to confirm that we will be flying with our pet and also what the procedure ans costs are. The representative advised that someone from cargo will be available to collect the pet from us, and the fee would be R350.

When we got to the airport and we wanted to book her in, it was a whole different ball-game! All of a sudden, there was no recollection of any correspondence regarding a pet, and the airline no longer flies live cargo. It was OUR responsibility to take the pet to cargo, and sort her out. And the fee increased to R650! This is almost the price of my ticket alone! This was NOT communicated to us in the first place. If we were advised correctly from the start, we would have followed the right steps.

We have flown with our pet on various times and with various other domestic airlines, ans have not experienced such an inconvenience. Even though BA prides themselves in being a 'top-notch' airline, we will not be using them again, due to their appalling pet procedure and policy.
Thank you for your post .
As air transport is a stressful experience for both the animals and their owners, the BidAir Cargo Pet Lounge in JNB & CPT provides a quiet area away from general cargo handling, with noisy forklifts, lots of people and excessive noise where animals would normally become extremely stressed. It appears that ACSA are no longer prepared to allow the acceptance of pets via the airport terminal and are now insisting on the implementation of the regulations that prohibit the carriage of live animals as additional baggage.
As for PLZ BidAir Cargo are currently constructing a Pet Lounge facility whilst DUR, PLZ, ELS and GRJ only have animal holding area's which will also be upgraded in due course. BidAir Cargo appreciate that travelling with your pet in the same aircraft does allow for greater peace of mind, however our policy considers and accommodated all the associated risks. Your pets are treated in a humane and safe manner when being processed via our cargo facility and are handled by specifically trained staff.
I do apologise for the lack of adequate indformation from our staff.Thank you for allowing me to respond.
