BRITISH AIRWAYS WONT LET YOU FLY WITHOUT BENDING YOUR LEG! And you wont get a refund!

I fractured my right femur and hip due to a car incident the 25th September 2016. After being discharged from the hospital, I was desperatley trying to organize an immediate flight to Durban to be under my mothers care. I purchased a ticket via Checkers Money Market for British Airways, Flight Number BA6311. I asked the cashier assiting me if she could request special requirements on her system and she advised that I call the airline myself to arrange. I called BA the next morning to arrange wheelchair assistance and a seat with legroom and was told by the call centre agent Refiloe Tau that their company policy is that I may not be permitted on the flight if I cannot bend my leg. BEND MY LEG! I had disclosed that I had a medical report from my treating doctor stating I am fit for travel. Very distressed that I will not make the flight I was forced to purchase another ticket this time with Mango. I asked how we can now fix this as if I am not allowed on the flight then I would require my money back. I was told I have an option of completeing a form which needed my doctors signature saying that I am unfit to travel or I would have to cancel to have a chance at getting a refund. I tried to get the matter resolved at Cape Town International Airport but didn’t get much joy as the manager was unavailable and the lady at the counter could only give me an email address and complaints / telephone number (of which I had called already). I was then told to contact Computicket to request for my refund as Checkers is a third party. A lady by the name Nomfundo Buthelezi tried to assist me but I have not received a response from her since 11 October 2016. According to her there is nothing more that she can do from her side because this is controlled by the airline. I have not heard anything from BA! In my state of pain and not having access to email I had to make arrangements to get to a internet café to scan in documents to PROVE to the airline that I had really undergone an operation.

I have read your policies, I have read terms and conditions. I have even read British Airways PLC general conditions! There they even give you an option of paying for another seat under their Medical Conditions atleast!

Can BA make reference to their conditions 3e, 5d.2, 7a,… NOWHERE did I see anything about bending a leg? You couldn’t even accommodate a return flight to Cape Town when I mentioned it as a way of sorting the issue.

I really don’t care who is responsible Checkers, Computicket or British Airwyas. The fact of the matter is I expect my money back, the FULL refund and compensation for all my troubles following up calls, emails etc. How can Mango accommodate me but such a reputable company such as BA cannot?? Where are the values of Treating Customers Fairly?
