BAD BA Flight experience

My boyfriend’s brother Nic is a frequent International flyer.

He generously bought his (retired) folks a return ticket to visit us with his accumulated avios points.

An excited Mr and Mrs Bode arrived at Cape Town International airport on Thursday last week, all packed and ready to fly to Durban.

Their excitement was short lived when they arrived at the check-in point and the teller rudely informed them that they would not be able to use their tickets and then proceeded to tear them in half.

The tickets had been issued to “Ken” and “Lorry” Bode – but their ID names are “Kenneth” and “Loraine” Bode.

Their only chance of boarding the plane was to purchase new tickets, which cost the retired couple just short of R4000 for a one way.
They did so reluctantly, they didn’t want to miss the flight and have to cancel our family holiday. They had hopes of being able to land in Durban and to try resolve the issue before returning to CT the following Monday.

Unfortunately customer care were not much help and they had to land up purchasing completely new tickets in order for them to return.

Now I understand and am grateful for stricter boarder and flight security and control, but honestly this couple are not international *********s, and the situation could really have been handled in a more polite manner.
Secondly, why was the ticket torn up? It was a return ticket… could they not have bought a one way to Durban and then called to get their details amended on the system before returning?

Thirdly (and this is the most frustrating) – had they used their Driver’s licences as proof of Identification, they would have been allowed access. A driver’s licence is an accepted form of ID but it only shows your initials and not your full name!

We tired numerous time over the course of the weekend to get some sort of resolve regarding this issue – but were not successful. I even resorted to leaving a query on BA’s facebook page asking them if someone could please get hold of us… my comment was removed, and no one contacted me.

It would be incredible for them to be re-imbur*****t for the money they had to spend, but right now an explanation / apology for the way they were treated would be great.

BA you have been BAd.
