Elderly Pensioners and Community Members Continually Let Down by Pungashe Boxer Superstores
I am writing on behalf of many frustrated community members regarding the ongoing service failures at Pungashe Boxer Superstores.
I would appreciate a response from Boxer management outlining what corrective measures will be implemented to prevent these issues from recurring.
This store is the primary supermarket and cash access point for multiple surrounding villages. The community continues to support this business, yet customers are repeatedly subjected to poor service, inadequate communication, and unnecessary hardship.
The most serious concern relates to pension and grant payment days. On 4 May, elderly pensioners waited for hours to access their money, only to be told that the funds had not arrived. Many people, including elderly individuals, returned home without receiving their pension payments. They were forced to return the following day, creating even longer queues as two days' worth of grant collections had to be processed at once.
The same issue occurred again this month. Pension funds only became available well into the afternoon, yet customers received little to no communication regarding the delay. Elderly people were left standing and waiting for hours without clear information about what was happening or when they would be assisted.
Queue management is another ongoing problem. Customers are frequently moved from one queue to another without proper explanation. There is often confusion regarding which queue serves which purpose, and people spend extended periods waiting simply to withdraw money, pay for groceries, or receive assistance.
Pricing discrepancies also remain a concern. Shelf prices are not always accurately reflected at the tills, requiring customers to carefully check receipts to avoid being overcharged. This creates further inconvenience, particularly for pensioners and low-income households who depend on accurate pricing to manage limited budgets.
As a community, we are deeply dissatisfied. It is frustrating that the only major supermarket serving multiple villages continues to disappoint the very people who support it. Elderly pensioners, in particular, deserve dignity, respect, and reliable service when accessing their grants and purchasing essential goods.
We respectfully request that Boxer Superstores investigate these ongoing issues, improve communication with customers, strengthen queue management, ensure accurate pricing, and provide a clear explanation regarding the repeated pension payment delays.
The community deserves better service and accountability from a store that plays such an important role in the daily lives of local residents.
