*********** Student Advisors

Absolutely appalled by the student advisor service at the Boston City Campus Randburg. The lack of anticipation and attention to student needs is totally unacceptable. I enrolled with Boston in July for a program which was to commence in August this year as I was looking for college that offered distance learning. Upon application I informed the enroller that I would be working away from home hence any further communication between the college and I would have to be electronic and I was told that this will not be an issue and they could definitely meet me halfway. I enquired about the possibility of me receiving my text books digitally as I could foresee a delay in might submissions as all the paperwork was summed up in August and was informed that I could only be given access after someone comes to pick up the textbooks from their offices- something which is difficult to do especially when you not there to arrange everything personally. In addition to this, after the whole registration fees and application process I was complete, I was advised that I should reach out to the student advisor would help me with links and assessment submissions- which I did but did not receive response. No one reached out until I followed up two days later when I contacted Nobuhle( the only person who has been trying to assist me through this entire ordeal) to help reach the student advisor "Nthate". I was then informed that she was on sick leave and she would be contacting me... No communication happened between this student advisor and I still. On the day which the books were collected, my sister then highlighted that she was actually informed that I could actually get the books electronically- something I had asked for to begin with. I then contacted the college to find out what was going on, I was informed that I had 4 modules outstanding and that I should just consider taking this course in the next semester- something I would not have to do had the student advisor been attentive in the first place. In addition to this when I mentioned that I would not be faced with such a situation had someone reached out to me , I was told to fill in HE-Appeal application form and was threatened with an email saying that I should not mention that I had received my textbooks late which in actual fact is true. Since my enrollment to date, not even once did this student advisor try to contact me via email even though I specifically mentioned that I would be unreachable on my South African number. She claims to have spoken to me through her colleague which I find unprofessional given that she was the one assigned as my student advisor and not Nobuhle.

In true essence, I should have been contacted by the student advisor from the moment my application and registration was complete. I deserved to be directed as this is the first time studying through this establishment especially because I had already explained my situation. I would like to get a valid explanation from the management at this branch in this regard and if I have to continue studying with this college, is there a possibility of working with a more reliable student advisor who will not hinder the completion of my studies? as I have no faith in working with someone who reasons in this manner.
