Poor Service at Bosch Sun Valley (Cape Town)
In summary - very poor service and I now sit with a car with a blown head gasket. My experience below.
I took my car in for a service 15 Feb 2021. When I booked the car in for a service, I specifically asked them to check why the car misfires. The following day they phoned to let me know that the service is done and that I can collect my car. When I asked if the misfire issue has been fixed, they said no but I have a few options. They said that they can trace and replace fuel lines, and it would cost another R3 000, in addition to the R2000 service. The other option was also over R3 000.. When I asked if they have replaced or even just checked the spark plugs, they said no. They said that they can check the spark plugs for an additional R750. I had no choice to agree to the additional R750, and once they've replaced the spark plugs they informed me that the misfire issue has been resolved. I left Bosch feeling quite dissatisfied.
17 March 2021 my wife drove back from work when the engine just cut out. We called roadside assistance and towed the car to Bosch. When we arrived at Bosch we told Bosch that my wife smelled something burn, and that the car got really hot. We specifically asked them to check that everything is OK with the cooling and that no pipes etc burned / melted. The next day Bosch phoned me to say that they did diagnostics and that the diagnostics showed that everything is 100% with the car. Bosch said the only problem that came up on the diagnostic was the immobilizer, and Bosch advised that we keep the spare key with us for is this to happen again. I then again asked them if they have checked the cooling, they said no and that it would be an additional R400. I then asked to speak to the manager, with no success even till today. I then spoke to the 2IC, and he assured me that he personally checked all aspects of the cooling and that everything is 100%. He said that he even let the car idle for 45 minutes, and everything was working as it should.
29 March 2021 my wife drove to work when the engine cut out yet again. When I inspected the vehicle next to the road, I noticed that there is way too much oil (I should have checked earlier). Bosch was 3 km away, so I waited till the car cooled down and took the car back again. The 2IC came out and agreed that the oil level is wrong and that the oil was overfilled (approx 3 cm on the dipstick, photo below). Bosch then said they will test all the potential aspects that could go wrong with overfilling the oil, and also test the head gasket. Later the day Bosch phoned to say that the overfilled oil didn't cause any damage, but the head gasket has blown due to a faulty waterpump.
The car is currently at Bosch, and the quote is R14 500 to repair the blown head gasket. Currently trying to get hold of customer service to see how this can be resolved.
