Disappointed Customer – Chemical Smell and Taste in Strawberry Pronutro
I recently purchased a box of Strawberry Pronutro, and I was extremely disappointed with my experience. The moment I cut open the silver inner packaging, I was immediately struck by a strong chemical smell. I hoped it was just the packaging, but once I added milk, the odor became even stronger. When I took my first bite, all I could taste was an overpowering chemical flavor. It was completely inedible. I shared my experience on Facebook, and I was horrified to discover that I am not the only customer who has experienced this exact problem. Numerous other people reported the same chemical smell and unpleasant taste, which suggests this may not be an isolated incident. To be completely honest, I wouldn't even give this product to my dog. In my opinion, it tastes so foul that doing so would feel like animal abuse. Yet this is a product that is being sold for people to eat. That is how strongly I feel about the quality of what I purchased. Money is tight, and every purchase counts. Had I known the product would smell and taste like this, I would never have bought it. Customers should not have to spend their hard-earned money on a product that is of such poor quality. I also have a Facebook page with just over 6,000 followers. I believe consumers deserve to know about experiences like mine, and unless this matter is addressed, I intend to continue sharing my honest experience and making people aware of what I encountered with this product. My goal is not to be unfair, but to ensure that other consumers can make informed purchasing decisions. I would appreciate a full refund for this purchase, and I sincerely hope your quality control team investigates this matter as a priority. If so many customers are reporting the same issue, there may be a manufacturing or quality control problem that needs immediate attention. Thank you for your time. Pronutro
Pronutro ingeredients have changed or the quality just deteriorated considerably. I bought a pack of original flavour at Shoprite Durbanville at the beginning of June 2026. My daughter complained that it was clumping and that it doesn't taste as it should be. When i tried it, it reminded me of the instant corn porridge by Iwisa with a gelatin like texture and not the wheaty grainy texture as we are used to for generations. What's up with this?!

Disgusting Product and Even Worse Customer Service
Bought a Strawberry Pronutro from Amazon on the 30th of May, it had a horrible smell and taste. Reported it immediately, sent all the photos requested, and was told the matter was escalated and I'd hear back within 48–72 hours. Guess what? Nothing. Then I contacted Bokomo customer care and got absolutely nowhere. The amount of back-and-forth, repeated requests for photos, and lack of follow-up is ridiculous. Nobody seems interested in collecting the product or actually helping. Customer service from both sides has been shocking. If this is how consumer complaints are handled, then somebody seriously needs to wake up. What a complete waste of time.

Disgusting taste
The "new texture" Pronutro is absolutely disgusting! Nothing remotely resembles the traditional well loved product that we have consumed for many years. The "new texture" is tasteless, sticky and lumpy and resembles a very poor quality fine baby porridge like goo. Maybe only good enough for farm animals. Don't waste your money buying, it is by absolutely a completely different product!

You have ruined Pronutro it is less than horrible
If I could give you zero stars I would have. It seems to be a culture in South Africa that if something works let’s break it! Pronutro cereal was excellent in the past it was a favourite of mine from childhood well into adult hood I always enjoyed the taste, the texture and just about everything about it. But what you have done with this brand that worked perfectly in the past is you ruined it No, you destroyed a great product. It is absolutely garbage it tastes horrible the texture is less than horrible. Whoever the not so bright spark is that came up with the idea to change this iconic product. Please fire them or put them on a plane with a one-way ticket to a very far foreign country never to return. They are not the sharpest tool in your shed. They are not the sharpest pencil in your company packet as I see that I am not the only one dissatisfied with what you have done to a great product. YOU DID NOT UPGRADE THE PRODUCT YOU DOWNGRADED IT!

ProNutro Banana flavour has been the only cereal I’ve bought or eaten for well over a decade. I absolutely loved the stuff. Then you changed the formula — heaven knows why. I can only assume it was to save a few cents, because the new version is terrible. Honestly, this should be taken to the ICC as a crime against humanity. The flavour is almost non-existent now, the texture is like sludge or putty, and every now and then you get weird chunks that feel like biting into Polyfilla. I couldn’t even finish a single bowl. You completely messed up a genuinely great product. Now I have to go searching through a dozen cereals again trying to find a new favourite. Why can’t companies just leave good products alone? 1/10. Would not recommend to my worst enemy.

Morning, I have been a great champion of ProNutro since I was a little boy. I have to, however, express my utter disappointment with your new ProNutro Product.You've changed the very essence of ProNutro. Unfortunately, I was one of those suckers who bought the new product. Both my daughter and I could not eat any of it baring a few tastes. If you, as a holding company, were planning to change this so radically, surely you should have called it something else, so as not to fool the consumers. All I can say is I am very disappointed in Pioneer Foods, Bokomo, and Pronutro.
