Dont expect quality assurance from BMW SA
I bought an approved BMW X5 from BMW Fourways in February 2024. In February 2025, after driving the vehicle for less than 20 000km, the BMW sensors picked up a low-pressure alert in the rear tyre. Took the vehicle to Tiger Wheel & Tyre, after removing the tyre they discovered the rim had been welded on the inside. It was not possible to pick this up on inspection of the vehicle when I took delivery. I notified the dealer, their response was there was nothing they can do because I had the vehicle for a year alread and I could have damaged the rim myself and had it repaired. I escalated to BMW SA, their customer care contacted the dealer and got the same response, which they just relayed on to me. BMW customer care advised there was nothing more they can do and if I want, I can take this to the Motor Industry Ombudsman (miosa). I lodged a complaint with miosa, after 2 days miosa responded that I am outside the 6-month implicit warranty period, so there is nothing they can do. Surely BMW customer care knew this before suggesting I contact miosa. More importantly, BMW SA has the digital platforms to monitor vehicle alerts, they can easily validate that there were no prior alerts on my vehicle that suggested I damaged the rim. BMW email's footer states they are a customer centric organisation. Would appreciate if their actions were congruent with this statement.
