BMW X5 Prop Shaft recall
I am a BMW car and bike rider for over 20 years but this episode has actually left me speechless that a company of your size and quality behave in such a manner. Had I not been travelling slowly this incident could have turned out very differently, so in effect BMW knowingly put me and my family at risk with a defective part, made no attempt to contact me which in this day and age is very simple, and now refuse to reimburse me for the part that should have been replaced in the recall.
I drive a 2012 BMW X5 3.0D VIn number WBAZW420X0L794995 and my dealer with all the details is Cedar Isle in Johannesburg who have actually been very helpful but to no avail. The issue arose on Sunday 18th of August when I heard a snapping sound followed by metal grating sounds, luckily I had just pulled off, so I stopped immediately to avoid any further damage. I arranged for a flat bed and had my vehicle taken to my local repairer as the vehicle is out of motor plan, he confirmed the prop shaft had broken and I authorised him to complete the repair, he ordered genuine parts from BMW which I have a receipt of and proceeded to repair the vehicle.
Afterwards I did some research and found out that there had been a recall in 2017 and this whilst my car was still under motor plan, I went to my BMW dealer who checked on the system and low and behold there in red it states my car is effected and should be recalled. I asked them what the next steps should be and they came back to me and told me to place a call with customer care as I have a strong case which I promptly did on Tuesday the 20th of August, after a lengthy discussion the agent came back and told me BMW could not help me. This is after I explained to them that this is not a service issue this is a defect, BMW have acknowledged that my car has this issue, they made no effort to contact me, put me and my family at risk, and at this point my demand is very reasonable as all I am asking for is reimbur*****t for the defective part.
I felt I was going nowhere and asked to speak to his superior he stated that it would not be possible and that he would get someone to call me, it has now been 3 days and still no call, I find this shocking and secondly how you can even consider that you are not liable for the part when it is a known defect. Clearly the South African organisation do not care about safety and have no moral responsibility, I will leave no stone unturned to have this remedied and that includes social media and legal alternatives.
My reference number is *** and I have the faulty parts with me.
