BMW SA - a fine, reputable auto manufacturer!

BMW sent me a survey to complete and under Comments I wrote: Is there anything else we can do for you? “YES! You can allow me to have at least 2 services within the Motorplan period. I bought my 320i Reg no. CS54BG GP in September 2013 from Lynhurst Auto in Corlett Drive Johannesburg. I am retired and do little mileage so when I was told that my promised 5 year Motorplan expired after only 4 years and 8 months in May 2018 I did not dispute this, but made sure to take it for the last service under the Motorplan before it expired. The service consultant at Melrose Arch Auto then informed me that as I had done slightly less than 30 000 km you would not pay for a service!

Please note the following: - I have had only ONE service in 4.7 years because you refused to do the others I requested annually because of low mileage. - Your representative at Lyndhurst Auto misled me when I purchased the car by telling me I was also purchasing the Motorplan for 5 years although it was active for significantly less. - I have paid for 4 or 5 services in the purchase price and will have had only ONE once it expires. - The car has done 28 000 km so I must put on another 2 000 km by 27 May before you will grant a free service. - The car in for service in the line behind me was purchased at the same time in 2013 but had done 32 000 km and a service was done for the owner under the Motorplan without a murmur from the service consultant. - I am 73 years old and you are forcing me to take the exhausting drive to Cape Town and back soon to exceed the magic 30 000 mark and then take it in again for the service. To my old-fashioned mind this is quite ********* of me, but I have no choice.

While I understand that you probably never envisaged such a sequence of events and that the service consultant was acting completely within his instructions, I ask you if what has transpired is the action of a fine, reputable vehicle manufacturer?

So what you can "do for me" is to allow me to have my 2nd free service under the Motorplan when my car reaches 30 000 km despite the 4.7 year Motorplan having expired by then. It will be greatly appreciated and I promise to tell about 500 of my closest friends of your generous concession. (Or not, if you are concerned it will set a precedent :)”

After carefully explaining that at my age the car is my 'vrekmotor', and with Rudi the service manager at Sandton Auto BMW taking up my case, BMW SA considerately agreed that I could have my free service within the Motorplan even though I had not done my 30 000 km, which they did.

That's a fine, reputable vehicle manufacturer!
