BMW Poor Service
To Whom It May Concern RE: BMW SMG Richards Bay & BMW SA I bought a 2015 BWW X1 from BMW SMG Richards Bay on the 28th July 2018. A resident in Johannesburg, I was comfortable with the idea of buying a pre-owned BMW directly from a dealership at the coastal region, believing them reputable since it’s direct from a BMW dealership. Upon collection of the vehicle on the 28th July 2018, on my first drive heading to Durban, I advised Dale the sales consultant that the wheels did not seem aligned as the steering wheel was not centred when driving in a straight line. Dale advised that I should take the vehicle to a dealer when I arrive back in Johannesburg, they would sort it out since it was still under warranty/maintenance plan. Dale also submitted that I should give his details to the dealership and they could contact him if there are any issues. Also advised Dale to send the second set of keys with the cars books to Bedfordview BMW. I advised Dale that I will be dropping the vehicle off at BMW Bedfordview, email sent to him on 14th August 2018, where they would have the issue with the alignment rectified. Bedfordview determined on the 21st August 2018 that the vehicles two front tires were damaged (bubbles were found in the inside of both tires). Due to the damage they were unable to fix the alignment. Expecting that BMW SMG Richards Bay will resolve the matter as promised, I did not anticipate their refusal to replace the two tire. BMW SMG Richards Bay sold me a vehicle that had two damaged tyres and refuse to take responsibility. I contacted BMW SA Complaints Division and lodged a complaint. Expecting some action to be taken, I was rudely surprised that I did not receive a call giving me feedback. A week later I contact BMW SA Complaints division, to follow up. I was advised that BMW SMG dismiss my claims as they did a 20 point check. In light of the 20 point check done, this deems the inspection on the vehicle to be thorough, as such it’s they belief that the tires were in good order. I asked BMW SA Complaints division if the 20 point check included inspections of the tyres in the inside of the tyres and wheels. I was advised that the inspection does not include inspection of wheels and tyres in the inside of the wheels and tyres. I state with conviction that I received the vehicle with two defective tyres. I reported my dissatisfaction with the alignment on the day I received the vehicle. BMW SMG Richards Bay are an unrepeatable dealership. BMW SA Complaints division do not take action, I don’t understand their point or purpose, they drew conclusion based on a 20 point check report which does not even cover examination of wheels and tyres, inside wheel and tyre inspections. I’ve driven BMW’s for the last 20 years and have remained loyal to the brand, the product and believed in its after sales service. I am disappointed with my last experience, I think it’s time move on. It is evident that BMW are dropping their standards. BMW SA should be ashamed that they accept and allow conduct of this nature from their dealerships. I did insure the mags and tyres on the X1 and have no financial loss in replacing the two tyres. As a matter of integrity and trust, it bitters me that that BMW SA and BMW SMG Richards Bay expect me to claim from my insurance. The vehicle has been standing at BMW Bedfordview for the past two weeks while trying to resolve this matter. I have had no joy in my new vehicle, it’s been at the dealer pending an outcome far longer than I have had it in my position since buying it. Shame on you BMW SA. Paying for a defective vehicle and not even having the benefit of driving it. The costs of repair diverted to the insurance or for my account. BMW clearly tick boxes without proper inspection and hide behind this as evidence that the vehicle is deemed to have passed all inspection. Consumers be aware. Don’t ever assume that when you buy from BMW that the product meets standards. BMW Pre Owned assurance and certification that you buying quality is a hoax. The inspections to ensure vehicle for safety and original factory standards was clearly not done at BMW SMG Richards Bay. BMW SMG Richards bay after sales service is atrocious as is BMW SA Complaints Division. I want my matter resolved. I also want my vehicle inspected thoroughly as I do not believe BMW SMG Richards Bay are thorough. Sincerely Brendon Cannel
