BMW 5 Series Sunroof Explodes

I own a 2010 model 5 series BMW. Whilst my wife was driving on an open road, the sunroof just exploded. I contacted BMW call center to report the incident and I was told that this never happens. I googled it and discovered that this happens a lot on the 3 series and X1 models. This is a dangerous and traumatic experience. Does anyone out there have a similar experience? Scary. Imagine driving with kids and this glass explodes.
