Water Pump Saga
Had my vehicle sent in for a leaking coolant issue earlier this year in March. Dealership had then replaced the thermostat housing. 5 months later, same issue however this time, the warranty had just expired a month before. Took in the vehicle (7.5 Gti) back to dealership for a check up only to be quoted R10400 for a new water pump. Found it odd after searching the net to find out that VW has issues with these water pumps so even if it was not defective at the time, common sense would tell them to change it whilst they initially had it out to replace the thermostat housing to avoid the customer having issues on the vehicle 5 months later. In this case, they fitted the old pump back in stating there was no fault at the time. A water pump? A part so cheap that they couldn't replace under the warranty or offer a quote to the customer at the time of the repair for the customer to consider paying for the part so the customer doesn't have to sit with a big bill 5 months later? After trying to run facts to the service manager of VW Umhlanga, he had managed out of good will to replace the pump but pass on balance of costs almost R7000 to us to settle. Still find it unfair but atleast they were willing to pay for something but if they can pay for it now, why couldn't they pay for it back then and change the part even if it were not defective?! Nevertheless, tried contacting VWSA since last week, received a call today and now have to wait 48 hours for news that I am sure will not be in my favour. And here we are, *****s of VW, a simple solution to this problem would have avoided our hate we have towards VW today. Never moving on to another VW. Definitely will consider repairing privately and trading in for another brand as I no longer wish to deal with VW again.
After reading comments of the dealership, it has proven they do not go the extra mile for their loyal customers
