Poor service and customer care

I have been extremely disappointed in my experience with Biddulphs. I relocated at the end of last year, from KZN to the Eastern Cape. The team on the day, with the exception of one member, worked slowly and we’re quite disinterested. They assured me that we would be done by 16:00 but if my neighbours hadn’t all pulled in to assist me I’m not sure we would have finished that night at all. We eventually finished shortly before 8pm.

I chose Biddulphs, secure in the knowledge that they are an established and reputable company and that they would look after our possessions. Never the less, I took out the optional extra of insurance…and thank goodness I did!

The state that our furniture arrived in was shocking! Sc****s, scratches, chunks of wood out in places and one piece even arrived in pieces! Many items have sentimental value and are simply irreplaceable. What’s more is the KZN staff **** to the EC crew claiming about the broken bedside table: “the owner knew about the damage and it was like that before the move”.

Moving is a stressful experience at the best of times and this made it exhausting. To make matters worse the claiming experience for the insurance has been drawn out and frustrating. They have expected me to get quotes for all items claimed and I am still waiting for a pay out…SIX MONTHS LATER. They have not told me what amount will be honoured or when I can expect it by.

I will not recommend using Biddulphs as a moving company to any friends or family.

Had I received decent customer care after contacting them about the poor state of my furniture, and throughout the insurance claim process, I would not be writing this review. But I have had to take hours from my day as a single mom running my own business to chase up quotes, find replacements and quite frankly do their job for them. If this platform allowed me to rate them zero stars, I would.

Dear Cassandra

Thank you for notifying us about your experience to which both the branches in KZN and EC (and respective managers) as well as the insurance brokers have been notified and are currently dealing with your claim.

We have escalated the comments and complaint to our brokers and a response should be coming to you shortly in due course with a settlement to finalize the matter.  It should not be taking so long and we will endeavor to push this along for you but we can only do what is in our control via the insurers processes.

The facts we have to hand briefly are noted below:  - Load was delivered to EC stores from KZN end of 2021 in December.
- Redelivery was done end of January 2022- The claim was submitted middle of February 2022
- A note on the file confirms that an assessor was appointed and that would be approximately middle March 2022. . Due to the nature and values claimed, the assessment can take time obtaining repair quotes where practicable and so on. We have asked this gets prioritised and settled.

We don't always get things right and in this case damages have occurred. Thankfully you have opted to take the all risk transit insurance and have the claim in process to be finalised in due course.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Stay Safe
