Haphazard packing technique, poor storage and zero after sales service
Biddulphs packed up our household belongings in September 2021 for an international move that included local storage for an extended period of time. The packing was done in a very haphazard way to a point that no one had a clue what was packed in what box and therefore no accurate record. No information was forthcoming (even after repeated requests) of how goods were stored at Biddulphs premises in Cape Town or while packing the container for shipping 12 months later. It was clear goods were damaged during storage as the signed inventory/packing list was altered by Biddulphs prior to shipment. When goods were unpacked at destination it was obvious that damages were incurred prior to leaving South Africa e.g. table destroyed (legs and table top broken). Unfortunately, closer inspection of goods (underneath protective packaging) has not been possible yet. Although we took out insurance with Biddulphs for the local transport and storage, the response from Biddulphs Cape Town has been dismissive and there suggested line of address, I believe could be of a ********** nature.
The Biddulphs experience has been a very disappointing and costly decision for us and do not recommend anyone should use them.
We have looked into the matter and are perturbed by your review.
As at today, since your review was on 5th March, your goods have not been delivered yet and are currently sitting in the agents warehouse overseas still wrapped and packed pending final delivery. Our offices remain contactable and open to communication or queries via yourself or the agent currently storing your personal effects.
We can confirm you have not taken out any marine insurance cover with us and/or sent back the required forms, but we are engaging you on this matter accordingly. If damages have indeed occurred, we are sorry to hear of this. Likely during the storage transit in/out and transit for the long journey then onto the agents stores for long term storage is where this may have occurred. Over and above this, if there are packing quality issues, please send through the evidence to our offices so we can further investigate.
Should you have any further queries, please contact the Cape Town office so it can be addressed accordingly.
Kind Regards
Team Biddulphs
