Attempted to sell unneeded parts to me

During my last service, the service consultant informed me that the bushings on my Lexus' lower control arms need to be replaced. He proceeded to tell me that the entire control arms must be replaced because the bushings are not sold separately. The quote for the control arms was over R12000 and excluded labour of just under R4500.

It took months to save up for the parts, which I eventually bought through another parts dealer. Only when I took them to be fitted by another company was I informed that the lower control arms do not need to be replaced at all! Furthermore, the actual bushings that do need to be replaced (urgently), are available for separate purchase from Toyota dealers for around R900 each.

This is so basic, that I can not believe it was a mistake and I feel that Barloworld Toyota tried to sell me parts which I did not need, an action that could have placed my life in danger.

I now need to purchase additional parts and sit with extremely expensive parts which can not be used. Had the service advisor been honest with me and provided me with the correct information, the work could have been done months ago.

I expect better from Toyota.
