Constitutional violations and **************
Headline: Unfair ************** & Evasive Management – Babushka Durbanville
Review Content:
I am writing this to warn the Durbanville community about the discriminatory treatment I received at Babushka Pub & Grill on the evening of 25 April 2026.
I entered the establishment and was served as a paying customer for almost or about an hour. During this time, I paid for beverages (Receipt proof: 19:07:44) and a game of pool. However, after an hour of peaceful patronage, I was summarily chased out by the staff because I was barefoot.
I made it clear to the staff that my lack of footwear is a matter of faith and conscience, protected under the South African Constitution. Despite having accepted my money and serving me for an hour (proving that my appearance was not a disruption or a safety hazard), they forced me to leave before I could finish the drinks and services I had already paid for.
When I attempted to resolve this reasonably with the owner, Cathrine Frances Gunter, via her registered contact number, she chose to block my number rather than provide an email address for a formal grievance or address the abuse from her staff.
This establishment’s conduct shows:
Unfair **************: Using "house rules" to override Constitutional rights.
Inconsistency: Accepting a patron’s money for an hour and then suddenly "ejecting" them.
Evasive Management: Blocking a customer to avoid accountability for staff behavior.
If you value a business that respects the Bill of Rights and treats paying customers with basic dignity, I suggest you look elsewhere. I have formally escalated this matter to the Western Cape Liquor Authority (WCP/032005) and the Public Protector.
To the owner: Blocking a complainant does not delete the legal record or the video evidence.
