Undisclosed information led to unnecessary expenditure

In April 2021 I made a claim on my funeral policy for my mother in law, the policy has been in force for almost 10 years now. During the claim process I was never informed about the benefits at my disposal. "Suppose" they are included in the contract, in all honesty one can't remember the contents of the document that was signed 10 years ago. Furthermore it is at the liberty of the consultant to provide me again with such information during the claim process. I only became aware recently when a friend of mine touched on the matter. This has caused a huge negative financial implication during this difficult time as I had to pay for the burial aside, whist I had a policy that covers this particular expenditure.
