Debt collection practice

I received sms messages at Christmas time from debt collectors for an amount owing to Auto page for R 5 892.50. When asked for the details, later correspondence reveals that the alleged balance outstanding is R1 592.30 per the statement on 01 January 2010 (now R5 892.50 per VVM). This debt would be 6 years old, my account was on debit order and Auto page have never followed up on any outstanding balance with me over the last 6 years. Subsequent review of later statements show the account to be up to date.<br> As his debt is over 6 years, I haver asked for proof of the amount outstanding, the original contract and proof that Auto Page have tried to recover any outstanding debt. I have not received a response from them or VVM and the VM call centre placed me on hold and have still not come back with an answer. Instead repeated SMS message are send to my wife and daughter, instead of my number, which is the primary number on the account. This method of debt collection is nothing short of bully tactics.
