What happened to the AA I signed up for about 50 years ago?

What happened to the AA I signed up for about 50 years ago? In those days anything you wanted to know about roads, road conditions and suggested routes you could ask them and you got a real good response.

I am visiting in Upington and heard the road washed away somewhere between Khuruman and Vryburg. I went to the AA website and asked what is the best route to follow. I did not say the road was damaged. I got a response with a link to the N14. There was no indication that the road was damaged. I mentioned it to them and was told :-

It will be best to call the Road Management Authority , they will be able to tell you ***

Today I looked at the link again and now there was a marker that say the road is damaged and to expect delays. I still do not know how safe it is or if there is a better route. I am disappointed with the response I got.
