Automobile Association (AA)
I have recently sent the below mail to the AA and am still waiting on a reply. I would have thought that something of this nature would receive urgent attention. the lack of response and the complete lack of co-operation from their call center leaves a bad taste. The Product Manager, AA Membership, Denis Paxton House, 4 Hyperion Road, Barbeque Downs, Kyalami. 1685
For attention: Mr. Andrew Clausen
Dear Mr. Clausen,
LETTER OF RESIGNATION – MEMBERSHIP NUMBERS ********** 81 / ********** 03
This missive serves as notice of my and my wife’s immediate resignation from your association.
This resignation is to be backdated to my first telephonic conversation with your consultant in September 2018 – please check your recordings for this information.
You will note that I have been a member of your association for many years (with only about 3 or 4 call-outs made) and might wonder why I am resigning.
The reasons for my resignation are as follows:
• I am 70 years old and have never been given the opportunity to have my monthly payments reduced, i.e. I have been paying the normal payment and not the pensioner’s payment for the last 10 years; • On 13 December 2017 my change of address was mailed to your association, but this has never been acknowledged or changed, i.e. the old address is still being used; • I contacted your association (phone consultant) during September 2018 to inform you that the debit order for the monthly payment was not to be app****, but instead the amount would be paid for by EFT; • During this conversation the consultant took it upon herself to verify the payment amount and informed me that I should now be paying the pensioners amount and that the next presentation of the debit order would only be required in November 2018 (2 months instead of 10 years??); • I accepted that the debit order presentation would therefore take place in November as informed; • At the end of September my bank contacted me and informed me that the debit order had been presented and would incur a penalty fee of R150.00 as I had not allowed for it as discussed with your consultant; • I contacted your consultant (a lady whose name I did not get) and discussed the problem with her, emphasizing the fact that I was not going to pay the R150.00 penalty fee. She was then going to investigate and return my call; • This never happened; • I again contacted your association and spoke to a person name “Cade” who insisted that the previous consultant had made a mistake in the calculations for the debit order, but still seemed not to understand that I wanted to pay by EFT and that the debit order should not be presented; • He also informed that he would contact the previous consultants and arrange them to contact me to sort the problem out; • This never happened; • I have subsequently conversed with two ladies Jill and Notbithila (pardon the spelling) and have again got nowhere; • To put the icing on the cake, I have again been informed by the bank that the debit order was once more presented and another penalty fee of R150.00 would be imposed. It would therefore seem to me that besides not taking age and callouts into account, your consultants are incapable of working to reduce such situations as described above. It would seem that despite all the declared values of the AA and the membership recommended that the AA is, in fact, only really interested in grinding out as much financial input from their clients as possible and not taking their record of membership into account. I could still possibly have worked with your consultants to finalise this matter, had they shown either interest or ability to do this. I would strongly advise you to concentrate on training your consultants to at least a level where they are able to communicate properly with your members and not attempt to pass blame for errors to other persons. Should the debit order be presented again after this fiasco, rest assured you will be hearing from my lawyers. Needless to say, I am deeply disappointed in receiving this lack service after approximately 40+ years of membership. This letter will also be sent to "hellopeter".
On behalf of everyone at AA we would like to apologize for the inconvenience you had experienced with us recently.
We will refer this matter to the relevant department for investigation and be in contact with you shortly.
Kind Regards
The AA Team
