Ignition coil.... again..

2010 Audi A4 1.8T M Mileage 75 260kms Whether this is typical of Audi quality or not, at the first service because the vehicle had consumed more oil than it should have Audi undertook some serious repairs involving the pistons. Audi will have a full detail of what they undertook - all at their expense and under warranty. However, when I requested that my motorplan and or warranty should be extended by a year this was refused. Motorist 0, Audi 1 The vehicle is now 7 + years old and has just clocked up 75 000 kms. It is regularly serviced every year by Audi Claremont. About 12 months ago it experienced a sudden and dramatic loss of power which was diagnosed as a failed ignition coil. The cost about R 3000 to replace. At the end of August 2018 the vehicle went in again to Audi Claremont for an annual service which amongst other replacements included 4 new spark plugs. On 6 November 2018 the vehicle experienced this sudden loss of power again. Ignition Coil #1 this time... and another R 3000 to replace the failed part. Audi Claremont went to great lengths to explain that coils do fail...they handle a few every month...but not an everyday occurrence. When I complained and said that in 50 odd years of motoring I had only experienced a single failure ( and that was this Audi), twice in as many years would suggest to me that it might be regarded as more than simply bad luck. Not so argued Audi Claremont and very generously extended a 15% discount on the part only. Audi Claremont were tasked with approaching Audi for a full refund of the repair given that I believe there is something fundamentally flawed with their parts or system or both. After waiting 2 weeks I contacted Audi Claremont to be advised that Audi SA were not prepared to entertain my request. I am submitting this so that other Audi owners become aware of my experiences. Is this just simply bad luck as Audi would like us to believe? Or is this a problem that many Audi owners have experienced but is being played down? Or do Audis simply begin to give problems as they grow more mature? What you can be sure of, is the 'not our responsibility ' from Audi and Audi SA
